About DepressionFree.com
Thank you for visiting this website. My name is Judy Rushfeldt, and I'm the publisher of DepressionFree.com. My mission for this site is to provide information and resources that will help individuals and families affected by depression get started on the road to recovery.
You will find information about several types of clinical and non-clinical depression, including symptoms, causes and strategies for treatment. In the resources section, you find will a list of mental health organizations that can direct you to resources in your local community.
For many people suffering from depression, the first step to getting help is the hardest. You may feel overwhelmed by crushing emotional pain, bone-wearying exhaustion and mental confusion. Just getting through each day may feel like a monumental effort.
I understand this, because I've been there. For years – decades, in fact – I suffered from severe clinical depression. For four years now I have been symptom free, with the help of medication. Why did it take so long for me to get the help I needed?
Looking back, I would point to a number of factors. My own ignorance was a major factor; I didn’t understand that depression could be caused by a brain disorder, nor did I know that the progressively worsening physical, emotional and mental symptoms all part of the same illness. Another factor was my family doctor at the time, who knew very little about clinical depression. And finally, the stigma about depression among my peer group affected me. I felt shame about my depression and hid it from others. (You can read more about my story on the clinical depression section of this site.)
My passion is that other people suffering from depression will get the help they need, when they need it.
